Taking time, time, time…

Starting now, I have decided to blog both in French and in English so that I can practice more written French and not lose this skill during these times of non-exposure to written French.

What have you all been doing these days? As for me, since lockdown has ended here in our region in France, I have been able to visit some nice places close by. We are still limited to the distance we can travel, though.

Had a picnic by the river running through the grotto of Mas d’azil

We managed to find some nice places that are within the maximum perimeter allowed. It still kinda makes me feel like some sort of prisoner, but this will have to do given the unusual situation.

Doing a happy dance in front of the Chateau de Foix… of course, it was closed.

It was a beautiful sunny day, perfect for a short picnic by the river, and a bit of promenade with the whole family.

Since I now have a lot of time, I’ve decided to buy more plants now that I have the luxury of time to look after them. These are some of the gorgeous plants that I bought.

This is a Begonia! I fell in-love with the gorgeous silver dots.

Every morning now, I make the rounds in the mini-garden to look at my outdoor plants. I grow some cherry tomatoes every spring. And I have lots of flowering bushes — sage, lavender, gaura, bougainvillea and a few others I unfortunately do not know the name of. I also have some aromatic herbs — wild mint, basil, rosemary. I wanted to buy a rambling rose but hubby advised against it. I guess it might be too much work. So I settled on buying a few more indoor plants. I found out there are some that are anti-pollutants, like the snake plant and chlorophytum. I can’t wait to receive my online orders. It’s just so nice and relaxing to be surrounded by greens.

Aside from that I’ve also been doing more cooking lately. Today, I’ve decided to try my hand at making brioche. It’s supposed to be a recipe for Cinnamon Rolls but I’ve revised it to make ube (purple yam?) + coconut sugar-flavored rolls.

They looked so nice before putting in the oven but they came out rather unsightly and in dire need of sugar!

It didn’t turn out so great, though. It was my first time making dough. I think I did not put enough yeast. And I needed to add more sugar. In the end, it was quite alright but nothing spectacular. Next time, I will try either a recipe for Mamon or Ensaymada.

And as usual, I’m also keeping myself busy with the watercolor paintings and yoga. But I think I will need more to keep myself preoccupied in the coming months.

Ciao for now and have a good week ahead.

Au revoir et passez une bonne semaine.
